TargetTalk: the magazine for shooting sports, hunting and firearms law

TargetTalk is an editorial online magazine for shooting sports, hunting and firearms law with over 190 guides (as of October 2026), a “News” section and five subject areas ranging from Tests & comparisons to Brands & manufacturers. The claim “Independent. Practical. To the point.” describes its ambition: answers instead of advertising copy, experience instead of hearsay, available at targettalk.de.

The magazine is aimed at people who handle firearms responsibly and want to make decisions based on facts: sport shooters before their first change of calibre, hunters before buying a new optic, beginners before applying for a firearms ownership licence (Waffenbesitzkarte, WBK). The guides explain how things fit together, while the “News” section keeps you up to date on changes in the law, trade fairs and new products.

TargetTalk grew out of the WaffenPro environment – the footer line “Made with WaffenPro” states this origin openly. Practical knowledge from the Zerbst shooting sports centre flows into the guides: from range officers, instructors and hunters who stand on the lane every day and know which questions are really asked at the firing point.

Five subject areas – from ammunition to the authorities

TargetTalk organises its knowledge into five subject areas: Tests & comparisons, Use & practice, Calibres & game knowledge, Law & safety and Brands & manufacturers. Each section answers a different kind of question – is a product any good, how do I use it, which cartridge fits, what is permitted, who is behind the brand.

The structure follows the path most readers take themselves. Anyone starting a new discipline begins with Use & practice, then checks the right ammunition under Calibres & game knowledge and covers themselves under Law & safety before choosing a specific model under Tests & comparisons. The overview shows which section is intended for whom.

The five subject areas of TargetTalk

Guides with substance: how the editorial team works

The more than 190 TargetTalk guides follow a simple principle: each article answers a specific question in a way that lets the reader act on it – zero a firearm, choose a calibre, prepare an application. “To the point” means that context comes before embellishment and that technical terms are explained rather than assumed.

“Independent” means that tests and comparisons name advantages and disadvantages and are not written as extended product descriptions. “Practical” means that knowledge from the Zerbst shooting sports centre flows into the texts: what range officers explain during the safety briefing, what instructors at the firearms school teach in the firearms certificate course and what hunters observe on the lane when checking their zero all find their way into the guides.

For readers this has a practical advantage. Terms that come up on TargetTalk are explained in the glossary on this site, and anyone with a question that no article answers can reach the editorial team at redaktion@targettalk.de.

04

Community, forum and classified ads

TargetTalk is more than a collection of articles: the community with its forum brings sport shooters, hunters and beginners into conversation, and under “Offers” you will find classified ads for equipment and accessories. Both are free to use and add to the guides what an editorial team alone cannot provide – the experience of many users.

In the forum you ask questions that are too specific for an article, share experiences with a discipline or a product and read how others have overcome a hurdle in an application to the authorities. The classified ads are the place for used equipment from the community. For firearms requiring a licence, the same legal rules apply as everywhere else: acquisition only against a valid licence, handover only to those entitled.

Anyone who wants to bring the forum discussion into practice will find the opportunity in Zerbst: the Freizeitschützen Zerbst e.V. brings together over 1,800 members, and every theory can be put to the test on the lane.

05

Trade fair calendar, company directory and directory of authorities

Alongside the guides, TargetTalk maintains three directories that save shooters and hunters time in everyday life: a trade fair calendar with dates such as SHOT Show, Jagd & Hund and Hohe Jagd & Fischerei, a company directory for the industry and a directory of authorities for firearms and hunting authorities.

The trade fair calendar answers the question of when and where new products, manufacturers and dealers can be experienced in person – from the leading international show in the USA to the major German hunting fairs. The company directory helps you find manufacturers, dealers, gunsmiths and service providers; the directory of authorities shows which firearms or hunting authority is responsible for a given place of residence.

The directory of authorities in particular complements our page on firearms authorities and our guide to the firearms ownership licence: there you read which documents the authority expects, while on TargetTalk you find the office responsible.

06

Newsletter and push notifications

The TargetTalk newsletter and push notifications inform you free of charge about new guides, items from the “News” section and upcoming trade fairs. Anyone who has to keep an eye on firearms law – and that applies to every licence holder – learns about changes before they become a problem.

The newsletter suits anyone who wants to read topics in a bundle; the push notification is intended for those who want to see an item immediately, for instance in the case of deadlines or changes in the law. Both can be activated directly on targettalk.de and cancelled again at any time. In addition, our guide to the changes in the Firearms Act summarises what has actually changed for sport shooters and hunters – with a view to what follows from it in Zerbst for applications, storage and training.
